Our office is located here, in the centre of the market. The history of Methoni spans over a thousand years. Methoni’s famous 13th century castle is said to be the biggest fortress of the Mediterranean Sea. In ancient years it’s remarkable harbor was the main sea way to Africa and Middle East and for that reason more than 300 shipwrecks have been found in the area.
In the main market you can find two banks (National Bank of Greece and Agricultural Bank), bakeries, butcher’s shops, souvenirs, groceries and two newspapers shops, one with foreign and the other with greek press, a bookshop and a hairdresser’s. There is also a post office and a general practitioner. Three traditional cafes provide the enjoyment of drinking coffee and discussing with inhabitants.
Going from the centre of the town to the sea shore you are met with nice small square and the town hall. A lovely fine sandy beach gives you the opportunity for a fabulous time of swimming and sunbathing. Next to the castle is a big square with cafés, restaurants and a playground.
Your boats can be anchored and are safe at the local marina.
It’s worth your while to visit the castle, especially at sunset – you will never forget it
