I operate in the area that is between the cities of Pilos and Koroni. This is the southernmost peninsula of the Peloponnesos in the province of Messinia, of which Kalamata is the capital. Among the mountains, olive trees, cypresses, oleanders and plane trees there are a number of sun-bakes villages which you will undoubtedly visit during your stay. I will mention a few and will start with my native village.
Kamaria
I am very happy to still have my parents and to this day they live in Kamaria. They have a small shop where you can buy the essentials of life. They will always be happy to help in case of problems. You can also visit our office in Methoni.

Finikounda
This is the nicest fishing village in the region. It is about four kilometers from the house. In the morning there is always fresh fish for sale but Finikounda also boasts a supermarket, a baker’s, a butcher’s and a number of nice and cheap restaurants.

Methoni
This is a lively little town some eight kilometers from our villa. Really anything can be bought here and there many nice outdoor cafés, all on the square. Restaurant ‘Klimataria’ is rightly very popular here. But Methoni also has a bank, a post office and a general practitioner. But let’s hope our guests do not need him. Very much worth a visit is the well -known Venetian fort with its sixteenth century Bourzi-tower.

Pilos
Many people know this town which is some twenty kilometers from Kamaria. Pilos is famous for its superb location, its striking market place with the plane trees. Many people have also visited Nestor’s Palace: a thirteenth century palace that was excavated in 1939 and is still intact.

Koroni

Kalamata
Kalamata is the capital of the province of Messinia. It is first and foremost a modern city. A shopping trip to Kalamata cannot but be successful. This is where the jewellers are to be found and where leather goods are for sale. On top, there a wide supply in shops selling clothes. But if you are particularly interested in authentic Greek goods: I am happy to say that plenty of shops selling these are still to be found in Kalamata.
Olympia
Finally I wish to mention the world famous Olympia. Every four years the Olympic fire is ignited here and then taken to Athens by marathon runners. How about running a round in this arena, thousand of years old? Or a visit to the magnificent Olympic Museum? Make it into a nice day trip! The scenery on the route north along the coast will certainly help.
The region has been included in a European programme ('Natura 2000') for protection and conservation of natural riches. This means that heavy industry will not be allowed in the area, even though new roads are being constructed to improve accessibility.
